7 diy skin care remedies for soft and gorgeous skin

These DIY skin care remedies will improve your natural glow. Getting smooth, soft, and clear skin is something most of us strive for. Not only does it make us more confident, but it is also a sign of good health. The problem with typical store-bought skin care products is that they are full of chemicals, carcinogens, artificial ingredients, and preservatives that we do not want to be putting on the largest organ of our body (the skin). That’s why these home made, cheap, easy, DIY skin care remedies are great options. They are made from ingredients that are pronounceable and can be found (mostly) in your kitchen!

1. COCONUT OIL BODY BUTTER

Body butter is one of the best DIY skin care remedies, as it is creamy and soothing to your skin. This coconut oil-based one will make your skin absolutely glowing. Coconut oil contains healthy fats that are great for your skin. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that can help with puffiness. This moisturizing cream has only 2 ingredients and is appropriate for anywhere on the body. The addition of lime makes this smell amazing, and adds some vitamin C and antioxidants that are great for clearing the skin.
Ingredients:
½ cup Coconut oil
15 drops of lime oil (or your favourite essential oil; you can try fresh lime juice too)
Directions:
Whisk the solid coconut oil in your mix-master, Kitchen Aid, electric whisk or stick blender. When it starts to soften add the lime or essential oil drops and keep mixing until nicely whipped. Label it and take note of the best by date on the coconut oil bottle. It’s best not to apply things with citrus oils to the skin before going out into the sun, as they can make the skin more photo-sensitive or more prone to going red. Store the oil in a cool, dark cupboard and most importantly – enjoy!

Nature's Way Extra Virgin Organic Coconut Oil, 32-Ounce

$15.00 FREE Shipping on orders over $35.

  • Coconut oil is a natural energy source because it contains MCTs (medium chain) “good fats” the body uses to produce energy.
  • Coconut oil is a good addition to physical activity, exercise and weight loss programs.
  • Coconut oil can be taken as a dietary supplement, used for cooking or used for skin & hair care.
  • Coconut Oil has a melting point at 76 degree Fahrenheit and may ship to you in solid or liquid form. It is still safe to consume if it is liquid or solid.

GRAPEFRUIT AND BROWN SUGAR FACIAL SCRUB
When you slough away dead skin cells with a facial scrub, you are left with soft and glowing skin. Using sugar to make homemade facial scrubs creates a great texture to get those dead skin cells off. Grapefruit is high in vitamin C to clear and brighten your skin. However, you should use this only once per week because of how acidic grapefruit is. Also, you can test it on your arm first because it is less sensitive, before applying to face to see if your skin will adversely react to the acid.
Ingredients:
½ pink grapefruit, peeled
1 cup brown sugar
water or grapefruit juice, as needed
Directions:
Toss the grapefruit and sugar into your blender or food processor, and blend until smooth. If you're having trouble getting things moving in the blender, add the water or grapefruit juice - 1 tablespoon at a time - until things are blending up nicely. To apply, wash your face as usual, then gently massage 1-2 tablespoons of the scrub into your still-damp skin. If you like, you can let it sit on your face for a few minutes before gently wiping the scrub away with a warm, damp wash cloth. Follow up with a good facial moisturizer.

HYDRATING CHOCOLATE FACIAL MASK

This facial mask will look good enough to eat! However, it contains nourishing avocados that will make your skin glow because of the healthy oils. The almonds also contain healthy fats that moisturize and smooth your skin. The raw cacao contains more antioxidants than regular cocoa powder, giving your skin more nutrients to be gorgeous. This recipe makes several masks, so you could save them for later, or have a mini spa day with your friends or family.
Ingredients:
(makes 2-3 applications)
1/2 ripe avocado
1 handful almonds (10-12 nuts)
1/4 cup water
1 tbsp raw cacao powder
Directions:
Add all ingredients into a high speed blender and blend for 30 seconds or until the consistency is even. The mixture should be thick, but you can add more water if it is not blending. When done, massage your mask over a clean face, light some candles, put on some relaxing music and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse off when finished and apply anti-aging serum or your facial oil of choice.

PINEAPPLE HONEY ALMOND EXFOLIATING FACIAL SCRUB

The almond oil in this facial scrub is moisturizing, nourishing, and softening. Honey is good for eczema, is anti-inflammatory, treats acne, is antibacterial, and eliminates wrinkles. Pineapple contains the enzyme bromelain, which is the exfoliating ingredient in the scrub. Fruit acids from pineapple improve circulation and remove dead skin cells as well. You will be getting a lot of benefits from this exfoliating scrub, and your skin will be left smooth.
Ingredients:
1 small pineapple
2 tsp sweet almond oil
1 tsp honey
Directions:
Prepare pineapple, Start by cutting of the top and bottom of the fruit. Cut off the skin and “eyes” leaving only the yellow fruit. Chop it up and pop in the blender on low until you have the consistency of liquid paste. Add in the almond oil followed by honey and blend for 10 seconds. Check consistency - it should not be too runny or too thick. Adjust quantities to get the right consistency. To apply, wet hands under the tap and lightly go over face to slightly dampen the skin. Take 1-2 teaspoons of scrub into your palms, and starting at the base of the neck, begin massaging it in using small circular movements. Apply to the entire face taking care to avoid the delicate eye area. Do this for 5 minutes before rinsing off in tepid water. Finish with a cold water rinse and pat the skin dry. Apply your regular moisturizer or why not choose one to easily make at home. This recipe is one to keep maximum 2 days in a tightly covered container in the fridge but best to make up fresh when needed. Do not use this more than twice a week.

ALOE AND CALENDULA CLEANSING CREAM

Cleansing creams feel so soothing and cool on the skin. This cleansing cream is said to remove make-up and dirt, too. It is very moisturizing and hydrating from the healthy oils. The aloe vera in this recipe has anti-inflammatory properties that can cool your skin if it is sunburnt as well. There are a few ingredients you probably do not have or don’t know where to find (I’m looking at you anhydrous lanolin) and that’s okay! All you have to do is substitute it with a similar ingredient, or try omitting it and see how it goes. Considering this is going to be a creamy mixture, it will be pretty versatile.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup almond, sunflower or soybean oil
2 tablespoons coconut oil (extra-virgin, unrefined)
2 tablespoons beeswax
1 teaspoon anhydrous lanolin
1/4 cup pure aloe vera juice
3 tablespoons strong calendula blossom or chamomile flower tea (you can substitute distilled water or your favorite hydrosol)
1 tablespoon vegetable glycerin
1 large (2 small) vitamin E oil capsules
15 drops lavender essential oil
15 drops rosemary or geranium essential oil
8 drops calendula essential oil, optional
Directions:
In a small saucepan over low heat or in a double boiler, warm the base oils, beeswax and lanolin until the wax is just melted. In another pan, lightly warm the aloe vera juice, tea and vegetable glycerin. Remove both pans from heat and pour the oils, wax and lanolin mixture into the blender, and allow it to cool until it just begins to thicken and becomes slightly opaque. It will take approximately 5 to 10 minutes to set like a soft, loose salve, depending on the temperature of your kitchen. As it thickens, give the mixture a few stirs to remove any lumps and incorporate any of the mixture that sticks to the sides of the blender. Do not allow this mixture to get too thick or you may have a difficult time getting it out of your blender. Place the lid on the blender and remove the lid’s plastic piece. Turn the blender on high and slowly drizzle the watery juice, tea and glycerin mixture through the center of the lid into the vortex of swirling fats below. Almost immediately the cream will turn pale yellow and begin to thicken. Blend for about 10 to 15 seconds until all the watery mixture has been added, then check the consistency of the cream. It should have a smooth texture. If the water mixture is not properly combining with the oils, wax and lanolin mixture, turn off the blender and give the cream a few manual stirs with a spatula to free up the blender blades. Then, replace the lid and blend on medium for another 5 to 10 seconds. Repeat this process until cream is smooth. Pierce the vitamin E capsule and squeeze the contents into the cream, add the essential oils, then blend completely another 5 seconds until the cream is smooth and thick. Note: If the temperature of your kitchen is above 76 degrees, the cream will maintain a softer consistency. (Coconut oil turns from solid to liquid at 76 degrees). If your kitchen is below 76 degrees, the cream will be firmer. Pour the finished cream into a storage container. Lightly cover each container with a paper towel and allow the cream to cool for about 30 minutes before capping. If, after a few hours or days, water begins to separate from your cream, don’t worry. You can pour off the watery liquid and use the resulting product as a foot, elbow or knee balm. The mixture can separate if the fat temperature and water temperature are not relatively equal and cool enough when the two portions are blended. Using a soft cloth, cleansing pad or your fingers, apply approximately 1/2 to 1 teaspoon to cover entire face, throat, and décolleté. Makes 1 cup.

STRAWBERRY PEPPERMINT FOOT SCRUB

An often neglected part of your skin is your feet. They need moisturizing and care too though (although, that could just be me because I’m a runner)! If you’ve ever came home from work and wanted to just put your feet up and relax, this recipe is for you! You probably have most of these ingredients at home, and they are all great for your skin. Strawberries contain antioxidants that can help soften your feet, and the oils are very hydrating. The sugar will help create texture to exfoliate dead skin (like those pesky calluses on your feet). Also, the peppermint oil is antibacterial for your feet and makes your feet feel soothed.
Ingredients:
2 cups pureed strawberries
1 tablespoon of olive oil
1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
2 tablespoons of granulated white sugar
4 drops peppermint essential oil
Directions:
Simply blend all the ingredients well and then transfer into a pretty glass jar. To use the scrub, simply rub the scrub into your feet gently in a circular motion, rinse with warm water, and enjoy the results! It is great to use strawberries in this recipe because they are rich in salicylic acid, which helps dead skin shed more easily. The sugar granules also help to exfoliate your skin but are super-gentle on delicate skin.

  • Made with 3 different Exfoliants to soften even the toughest skin: Dead Sea Salts, finely ground Pumice and Whole Strawberry Seeds.
  • The perfect combination of moisture and exfoliation!
  • Made with Organic Olive Oil that leaves skin moisturized and nourished!
  • Includes French Green Clay to provide therapeutic minerals and also creates a beautiful light green scrub!
  • Scented with Pure Essential Oils of Peppermint, Rosemary & Eucalyptus

GREEN PAPAYA BRIGHTENING MASK

Although papayas can be hard to come by, if you come across one, this recipe is a great one to make. If you are looking to de-puff your face and brighten skin, go to your local health food store and pick up a papaya. Papayas are rich in anti-inflammatory enzymes that will reduce that bloated, puffy face look if applied to the skin. These enzymes also make your skin shine and glow. The added honey and yogurt will help moisturize your skin. I will note that you can substitute avocado for the yogurt, as I do that quite often (I am allergic to dairy and don’t keep it around the house). You will still get great benefits from it, maybe even better benefits.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup unripe papaya, diced
1 teaspoon plain yogurt
1 teaspoon honey
Directions:
Blend ingredients in a food processor until smooth. Apply to clean skin using fingers; leave on for 8 to 10 minutes. Rinse off using cool water and pat dry. Finish by applying a gentle moisturizer.
You don’t need expensive, chemical-laden products to achieve clear, glowing skin. Instead, you can make all of the skin masks, scrubs, and moisturizers you need from natural and whole ingredients that you can pronounce. This will give you the benefits of healthy skin, while saving you from the side-effects of toxic chemicals. You can’t beat that! What is your favorite home remedy that gives you gorgeous skin?

Beautiful Shiny Hair Tips And Some Homemade Hair Treatments

Beautiful Shiny Hair Must Be Looked After

Wash your hair correctly. Note: If you can, try not to wash your hair every day. Daily baths and showers will strip your hair of its natural oils.
  • Massage your scalp with the shampoo, not with conditioner. Do this for about 40 seconds before washing it out. If you have oily hair, repeat the process once more (with the shampoo, not conditioner). When you massage the top of your head, the circulation increases and it also helps prevent dandruff. Use a sulfate and silicone free shampoo if your hair is curly or wavy.
  • Pour conditioner into your hand and rub from the tips of your hair to the roots. If you want softer silkier looking hair, leave the conditioner in your hair for a few minutes before you rinse it off.
  • Try to wash your hair on the coolest setting that is comfortable or at least try giving it a final rinse of cool water. This seals the hair cuticles (the outermost layer of the hair shaft) and locks in moisture, making it shinier. Hotter water may be used occasionally to wash hair, if you have very oily or dirty hair. Either way, try rinsing in cool temperature water for the final rinse.
Have Great Hair Step 1.jpg

Dry your hair in a careful manner. Blow dryers can be more benefiting than air-drying if you use them correctly. When you blow dry your hair, put it on a cool setting and hold distance it away to protect it from any heat. If you hold the blow dryer too close, the water in your hair can begin to boil. This is why hair dryers are known to be bad, but if you use it correctly it is very good. If you can, avoid drying your hair with heat as much as you can; it will only age your hair.
Avoid wringing your hair with a towel after you get out of a shower. Wet hair is more fragile, and wringing it could cause your hair strands to break or fall out.
Use heat protection spray when you blow dry your hair. You should also use protection spray when you use hot rollers or a flat iron.
Avoid brushing your hair while it's wet. Wet hair is stretchier and has a tendency to break. Also, don't brush your hair too much. People say that brushing your hair 100 strokes a day will make it smoother -- but it will only cause breakage to your hair.
When you do brush your hair, try a natural bristle brush like a boar bristle brush. These brushes distribute oils throughout your hair to make it softer and shinier.
Only use a wide-tooth comb on wet hair. Apply leave-in conditioner or detangler to make your hair more pliable.
Have Great Hair Step 4.jpg

Give your hair some special treatment from time to time.
Apply a deep conditioning treatment. You can use deep conditioning treatments like olive oil, argan oil, avocado oil or coconut oil.
You can also purchase a hair mask or hair cream and apply it.
Use a natural treatment like olive oil, mayonnaise and an egg or a soak in full-fat milk. Leave these treatments in for 2 to 3 hours and rinse them out thoroughly without applying shampoo or conditioner. You can do this once or twice per week, if you see good results.
Use a leave-in conditioner at least once a week. Leave-in conditioners penetrate deep into your hair cuticles to heal them more completely.
Try a spray leave in conditioner/ detangler after you shower. The conditioner will make your hair more pliable and manageable.
Go easy on styling products. Styling products can dry your scalp, if you use it directly at the scalp. Try not to use it often, but if you must, apply to hair strands and not the scalp. Then, style your hair at most 4 times a week to avoid damaging it.
Accessorize your healthy, gorgeous hair. Clips or barrettes can compliment beautiful hair. Coordinate them with your outfits or your personality. If you use elastics, use fabric-covered elastics to prevent breakage and tangles.
Eat healthy foods that will keep your hair strong and lustrous. Your diet can also prevent hair loss.
Essential fatty acids, especially omega-3 fatty acids, promote healthy skin, hair and nails. You should eat some of these foods, which are rich in omega-3, every day:
Salmon, tuna, mackerel, and other fatty fish
Flax seed oil
Walnuts, almonds, and milk
Vitamins B-6, B-12, and folic acid are also important to your hair. You can always take a multivitamin to get more of these nutrients, but you can also add foods rich in these vitamins to your diet.
Vitamin B-6: bananas, potatoes (both white and sweet) and spinach.
Vitamin B-12: meat, poultry, fish and dairy products.
Folic acid: citrus fruits, tomatoes, whole grain and fortified grain products, beans and lentils.
Protein also promotes healthy hair. Eat a daily serving of fish, chicken, eggs or soy.[1]
Homemade Treatments

Eggs, yogurt and honey are, at first glance, all components of a tasty breakfast—but they also happen to be hair treatment ingredients, and affordable, all-natural ones at that. And they're not the only ones. Did you know, for instance, that the oils in avocados more closely resemble our own skin's oils than any product in the beauty aisle does? Or that the mild acidity in lemon is an effective—and gentler—alternative to chemical-laden products? Next time your locks need a lift, save money by using one of these kitchen fixes.

"The [raw] egg is really the best of all worlds," says Janice Cox, author ofNatural Beauty at Home. The yolk, rich in fats and proteins, is naturally moisturizing, while the white, which contains bacteria-eating enzymes, removes unwanted oils, she explains.
To Use: For normal hair, use the entire egg to condition hair; use egg whites only to treat oily hair; use egg yolks only to moisturize dry, brittle hair, Cox says. Use 1/2 cup of whichever egg mixture is appropriate for you and apply to clean, damp hair. If there isn’t enough egg to coat scalp and hair, use more as needed. Leave on for 20 minutes, rinse with cool water (to prevent egg from “cooking”) and shampoo hair. Whole egg and yolks-only treatments can be applied once a month; whites-only treatment can be applied every two weeks.

For Dull Hair
Styling products (as well as air pollution) can leave a film that both saps moisture and dulls shine—but dairy products like sour cream and plain yogurt can help reverse this damage. "Lactic acid gently strips away dirt while the milk fat moisturizes," says Lisa Belkin, author of The Cosmetics Cookbook.
To Use: Massage 1/2 cup sour cream or plain yogurt into damp hair and let sit for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water, followed by cool water, then shampoo hair as you normally would. Treatment can be applied every other week.

For Itchy Scalp
To fight flakes—brought on by poor diet, stress and climate, among other factors—try a lemon juice and olive oil mixture in your hair. "The acidity in lemon juice helps rid your scalp of any loose, dry flakes of skin, while the olive oil moisturizes the [newly exposed] skin on your head," says Cox.
To Use: Mix 2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice, 2 Tbsp olive oil and 2 Tbsp water, and massage into damp scalp. Let mixture sit for 20 minutes, then rinse and shampoo hair. Treatment can be applied every other week.

For Limp or Fine Hair
To add body to hair, reach for an unlikely beauty beverage: beer! The fermented drink contains generous supplies of yeast, which works to plump tired tresses, explains Cox.
To Use: Mix 1/2 cup flat beer (pour beer into a container and let it sit out for a couple of hours to deplete carbonation) with 1 tsp light oil (sunflower or canola) and a raw egg. Apply to clean, damp hair, let sit for 15 minutes, then rinse with cool water. Or add flat beer only to a spray bottle and spritz onto dry hair. "When the liquid evaporates, the remaining protein residue (from the wheat, malt or hops) continues to strengthen and structure hair," says Belkin. Treatments can be applied every other week.

For Dry or Sun-Damaged Hair
Whatever your hair-dehydrating demon—hard water, sun overexposure, your trusty flat iron—nature's sweetener can help. "Honey is a natural humectant, which means it attracts and locks in moisture," says Cox.
To Use: Massage approximately 1/2 cup honey into clean, damp hair, let sit for 20 minutes, then rinse with warm water. You can also add 1 to 2 Tbsp olive oil to loosen the honey for easier application. For extremely sun-damaged hair, trying mixing honey with 1 to 2 Tbsp of a protein-rich ingredient, like avocado or egg yolk, which will help replenish the keratin protein bonds that UV rays attack. Treatment can be applied once a month.

For Oily or Greasy Hair
"Used properly, [cornmeal or cornstarch] is an inexpensive way to remove oil and grease," says Belkin.
To Use: Pour 1 Tbsp cornmeal or cornstarch into an empty salt or pepper shaker and sprinkle onto dry hair and scalp until you’ve used it all. After 10 minutes, use a paddle hairbrush to completely brush it out. Treatment can be applied every other day.

For Frizzy Hair
Home beauty experts swear by avocado—and not just to repair damaged hair. Its oils (which are light and moist like our own natural skin secretions) and proteins boast the best combination of nutrients for smoothing and weighing down unruly hair, explains Cox.
To Use: Mash up half an avocado and massage into clean, damp hair. Let sit for 15 minutes before rinsing with water. Amp up moisturizing power by combining mashed avocado with 1 to 2 Tbsp of a hydrating ingredient, like sour cream, egg yolks or mayonnaise. Treatment can be applied every two weeks.

For Residue-Ridden Hair
"Nothing eats through product buildup like baking soda," Cox says. Sodium bicarbonate essentially breaks down anything acidic.
To Use: Mix 1 to 2 Tbsp baking soda with small amounts of water until a thick paste forms. Massage into damp hair and let sit for 15 minutes. Rinse with water, then shampoo hair. Treatment can be applied every two weeks.
